During his screening before the Senate, the Kaduna State ministerial nominee, Abbas Balarabe, collapsed suddenly. This occurred immediately after he concluded his presentation and received praise from one of the Kaduna senators.
In response to Balarabe's collapse, Senate President GodsWill Akpabio urgently called for water and sugar while summoning Dr. Musa. Following this, a closed-door session was promptly convened.
Balarabe had been nominated as a replacement for the former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai. This nomination was conveyed in a letter Akpabio read during Tuesday's plenary session.
Dr Jamila Ibrahaim and Ayodele Olawande were also named Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths, respectively, as earlier nominated by the President.
Balarabe, a former Secretary to the Kaduna State government, had been appointed in April to head a 65-member transition committee in anticipation of Uba Sani's swearing-in.
It is worth noting that in August, the Senate declined to confirm the nomination of El-Rufai, alongside former Nexim bank Managing Director Stella Okotete (Delta State) and Abubakar Danlandi, a nominee from Taraba State. Out of the 48 nominees presented by the President, 45 were successfully confirmed as ministers by the Senate.
