Renowned Nollywood actress turned politician, Tonto Dikeh, has voiced her suspicions that Naira Marley, the head of Marlian Records, may have influential political figures supporting him.
Dikeh's comments came in response to a tweet by Naira Marley after his recent arrest by the police. This arrest was related to the investigation surrounding the tragic passing of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, known as Mohbad.
Confirming the arrest, Lagos Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin stated that Naira Marley was taken into custody shortly after returning to Nigeria.
Naira Marley later took to social media to share, "I would like to share that I have just arrived back in Lagos, Nigeria, to assist the authorities with the ongoing investigation... I must do my part for Imole. I will be meeting with the police with hopes for the truth to be uncovered and for justice to prevail."
A widely circulated video captured the singer being escorted at the airport before being taken into police custody.
In her Instagram post, Tonto Dikeh expressed her belief that, in a just society, Naira Marley would be in handcuffs instead of using his phone to tweet about his return.
Tonto analyzed Naira Marley's demeanour in police custody, stating, "Look who has come back to Nigeria to assist the police in investigating why he and Sam Larry tortured Mohbad... I ask again, who are those protecting Naira Marley? In the right country, he should be in handcuffs and chains rather than having a phone to tweet... Naira Marley’s confidence looks to me like he has some top political underdogs by his side."
Reports indicate that Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, were accused of being involved in Mohbad’s tragic demise. This followed the emergence of documents and videos depicting the duo subjecting Mohbad to relentless bullying after he left the record label.
