September 22, 2023 US Court Delays Release Of Tinubu’s School Records To Atiku

U.S. District Judge Nancy Maldonado has decided to stay an order requiring Chicago State University (CSU) to provide specific academic documents related to Bola Tinubu, who currently serves as the President of Nigeria.

Earlier, Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Gilbert had instructed CSU to submit these documents by the end of Thursday.

However, an emergency hearing on Thursday led Judge Maldonado to call for additional arguments from both sides, with a deadline of next Thursday. The legal team representing the Nigerian President argued that Judge Gilbert's decision needed review by a district judge, and this request was granted by Judge Maldonado. She expressed her commitment to making a prompt ruling, acknowledging the importance of the case.

Tinubu had filed an Emergency Motion in the Chicago Court, seeking a delay in releasing his academic records until at least Monday, September 25th. The court had initially ordered CSU to provide all records of Tinubu's student status to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar within two days.

Atiku contends that Tinubu's claim of graduating from Chicago State University needs to be more authentic and seeks these documents to support his case that the Nigerian leader was ineligible to run for the presidential election at the time he did.
