September 5, 2023 NLC Shuns Meeting With FG, Begins Two-Day Warning Strike

The two-day nationwide warning strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) begins today as the Congress has stuck to its gun to ground the economy.

The move has garnered widespread support from key stakeholders.

For example, the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE) have directed its members to withdraw their services today, Tuesday, 5th September, and Wednesday, 6th September.

NUBIFIE stated this in a letter to its Zonal Council and Domestic Committee organs of the Union signed by the General Secretary, Mohammed Sheikh.

Joining the chorus of concern, the United Action Front of Civil Society has thrown its full support behind the warning strike.

In a statement signed by the Head of the National Coordinating Centre for the United Action Front of Civil Society, Wale Okunniyi, the organisation expressed outrage over the hardship of Nigerians after the fuel subsidy removal.

Also, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has thrown its weight behind the strike in a letter signed by its Head of Media, John Ikemefuna.
