Sha’Carri Richardson of the United States of America (USA) has stormed to gold in the Women’s 100m final at the World Athletics championship in Budapest, Hungary.
Richardson ran a time of 10.65 seconds to defeat Shericka Jackson of Jamaica, who came second in a time of 10.72 seconds.
Former champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, ran a time of 10.77 seconds to come third in the race.
There was a scare for Richardson in the semi-final, where she came third in a time of 10.84 seconds. She took off late and had to struggle to qualify for the final.
All eyes were on Jackson and Fraser-Pryce as they were old horses in the game, but the American, running in lane nine, outwitted them all to strike gold.
Stunning a high-class field from lane nine, Richardson produced a championship record performance of 10.65 seconds - the joint-fifth fastest time ever - to claim gold on her major championship debut.
The outpouring concoction of emotions spoke volumes. It is no secret that Richardson has had to overcome major setbacks at the beginning of a career full of promise.
