June 26, 2023 Why I Celebrated Like Adesanya After UFC Win — David Onama

Mixed Martial Arts fighter David Onama recently shed light on his decision to emulate Israel Adesanya's iconic bow-and-arrow celebration following his impressive knockout victory at UFC on ABC 5.

Onama, with a notable professional record of 11 wins and 2 losses, had meticulously planned his tribute to Adesanya well in advance of his bout against Gabriel Santos, an accomplished MMA fighter with 10 wins and 2 losses.

Displaying his skill and determination, Onama delivered a devastating second-round knockout that left Santos defeated at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

To the delight of spectators, Onama replicated Adesanya's triumphant gesture from his UFC 287 title win over Alex Pereira in April. After Santos' defeat, Onama gracefully imitated Adesanya's actions, miming the act of pulling out an imaginary bow and shooting arrows toward his fallen opponent as a tribute to Adesanya's exceptional abilities.

During the post-fight news conference for UFC on ABC 5, Onama expressed his admiration for Adesanya, stating, "That's my guy, Izzy. Izzy fought a Brazilian, and I thought, 'I'm going to do what Izzy did.

I'm going to knock this kid out, and then I'm going to celebrate like Izzy.' And it showed, so," Onama explained to MMA Junkie and other reporters.
