May 15, 2023 ‘We’re Proud Of You’  —  Buhari Celebrates Hilda Baci For Breaking Cooking Record

Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci has received high praise and recognition from President Muhammadu Buhari after successfully breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Baci embarked on her remarkable four-day cooking challenge on Thursday, May 11, at the Amore Gardens.

As of 7:46 am on Monday, May 15, 2023, Baci had cooked for an impressive 87 hours and 46 minutes, surpassing the record set by Indian chef Lata Tondon in 2019.

Expressing his congratulations, President Buhari took to Twitter to commend the 27-year-old chef, stating that she has placed Nigeria on the global stage.

Describing her as a cultural icon, the president recognized Baci's ambition and resilience, which have shed light on the uniqueness of Nigerian cuisine.

"I share the immense joy of all Nigerians as Hilda Bassey Effiong (Hilda Baci) makes history by breaking the world record for the longest cooking marathon. A great day for Nigeria. We're all very proud of what she has personally accomplished and for placing Nigeria in the global spotlight," expressed President Buhari.

He further added, "Hilda's drive, ambition, and resilience have brought great interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian food. She is now a cultural icon, and I believe that this feat will inspire many more young people, in Nigeria and beyond, to follow in her footsteps."

Meanwhile, the Guinness World Records, through its official Twitter handle, announced that Baci's world record attempt would be officially confirmed after reviewing the evidence of her remarkable feat.

Baci intends to continue cooking until 4 pm on Monday, aiming to reach her record goal of 96 hours.
