Funke Akindele, a Nollywood actress turned politician, has opened up about her absence on Twitter.

She explained that following her defeat in the Lagos gubernatorial elections as the running mate of Abdulazeez Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), she decided to stay away from the social media platform.

After the PDP's loss to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 18, 2023, elections, Akindele removed all of her campaign and political-related posts from her social media accounts.

A fan recently questioned her about her prolonged absence from Twitter, prompting the actress to break her silence and reveal that she had no regrets about joining politics and contesting in the elections.

The fan @apexproperties2 wrote, "Madam Funke, I cite you. For the longest time, you ran away from us, or what happened?" Funke responded, "Dem too dey insult people on this app, so I stay off."

As for her future plans, it remains to be seen whether Akindele, who had previously retired from acting and Nollywood, will return to the screen.

She wrote, “It has been an amazing and insightful experience on my journey to the ballot, and I must say, it was an absolute learning curve for me. A lot of things have been learned and unlearned. I sincerely do not regret taking this huge step of running for office."
