Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that the first Harry Potter television series will be produced, with author JK Rowling acting as an executive producer.

This comes despite recent accusations of transphobia against Rowling, who denies the claims. The series will be a faithful adaptation of Rowling’s popular books about the boy wizard and will be aired on the entertainment company’s streaming service, Max.

The stories from each of the books will be adapted into a decade-long series with a new cast. Rowling stated that she is looking forward to being part of the new adaptation, which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series.

The Max streaming service will officially launch on May 23 in the United States, combining the platforms HBO Max and Discovery Plus. No timeline has been given for when the Harry Potter series will be filmed.
