January 25, 2023 Former Boxer Mike Tyson Sued For $5M For Allegedly Raping Woman In Early ’90s

A woman is suing boxing icon Mike Tyson, alleging that he sexually assaulted her in a limo in the early 1990s after they met at a well-known nightclub in Albany.

The unidentified plaintiff claims in her case, which was submitted in Albany this month and asks for $5 million in damages, that the rape has caused her to have "physical, psychological, and emotional injury" over the years.

The woman's affidavit, which The Post obtained, does not give a specific date for the alleged attack; it only states that it took place at some point in the early 1990s, which is around the same time that Desiree Washington, then 18, who was competing in a beauty pageant, claimed the former heavyweight champion raped her in Indianapolis, made her accusation.

On February 10, 1992, Tyson, then 56, was found guilty of raping Washington and was sentenced to three years in jail. He has steadfastly defended his innocence in the situation.

According to the state's newly passed Adult Survivors Act, which allows sexual assault victims a year to bring cases for assaults that occurred years or even decades ago, the legal action in upstate New York was brought.

In her affidavit, the alleged victim said that she met Tyson at the then-named "Septembers" nightclub and subsequently boarded his limousine after he offered to pick up her companion and drive the two of them to a party. The boxer allegedly tried to kiss her and began caressing her right away, according to the woman.

“I told him no several times and asked him to stop, but he continued to attack me,” the woman said. “He then pulled my pants off and violently raped me.”

The document does not say whether Tyson’s driver was inside the vehicle at the time of the alleged rape, or whether the limo was parked or in motion.
The woman is seeking to maintain her anonymity because, she said, publication of her name “would certainly pose a risk to me of further mental harm, harassment, ridicule or personal embarrassment.”

The plaintiff’s attorney, Darren Seilback, said in a separate filing that his office did not simply take the woman at her word but thoroughly investigated her allegations and determined that they are “highly credible.”

As the undisputed heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990, Tyson achieved global renown, but his life outside of the ring has been plagued by several scandals and his battles with addiction.
Actress Robin Givens, Tyson's first ex-wife, said in divorce documents that their short union in the late 1980s was marked by "unprovoked rages of violence and devastation."

In 2002, the athlete's second wife, Monica Turner, filed for divorce from him, claiming that throughout their six-year marriage, he had committed adultery.

In 2009, not long after Monica Spicer, then 44, was released from jail after a fraud conviction, Tyson married his third wife. Tyson has five elder children from his past partnerships in addition to the couple's two children.
