September 19, 2022 Imo Assembly Removes Speaker

The Imo State House of Assembly removed its speaker, Kennedy Ibe, on Monday afternoon.

Emeka Nduka was also elected as the Assembly's new speaker.

The Imo State House of Assembly now has four Speakers in three years, thanks to Nduka's election.

Nduka, who represents the Ehime Mbano State Constituency, was sworn in immediately by Clerk of the Assembly Chinelo Emeghara and was congratulated by Deputy Speaker Amara Iwuanyanwu, Majority Leader Kanayo Onyemaechi of Owerri West, and ranking legislator Ngozi Obiefule of Isu State Constituency.

After Paul Emezim was impeached as a speaker, Ibe, who represents the Obowo State constituency, was elected as speaker in November 2021.

Ibe was suspended after he was chosen as the legislature's number one guy.

Onyemaechi Njoku, the member representing the Ihitte Uboma state constituency, informed an online source that the members will help the incoming speaker stabilize the Assembly.
