The Academic Staff Union of Universities has agreed to extend its ongoing strike after a brief but contentious round of deliberations, according to Punch.
The choice was made on Monday, August 29, 2022, following the National Executive Council meeting at the union's headquarters at the University of Abuja.
Early reports on Monday morning indicated that the crucial meeting was taking place on the campus of the University of Abuja, which is home to the ASUU headquarters.
The purpose of today's discussion was to discuss the possibilities of ending the strike or prolonging it, even though some State colleges have already announced their withdrawal from it.
However, the meeting didn't even last two hours before it was announced that the strike would go on.

Since February of this year, ASUU has been on strike in support of, among other things, enhanced welfare and revitalizing public institutions.
Since all attempts by the government to get the union to call off the strike have been successful, one point of discontent for academics is the non-payment of university revitalization funds, which total around N1.1 trillion.
What the government is doing in response to the ASUU strike: According to the administration, not enough money is available to pay the professors.
Representative Dachung Musa Bagos has requested the Federal Government to compensate the Academic Staff Union of Universities with some of the newly recovered Abacha loot, which totals $23,439,724 million (ASUU).
Ahmed Isah, commonly known as Ordinary President, is the host of the reality radio and television talk program Brekete Family Programme. He has started a drive to raise N18 billion for the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU.
The ASUU president, Osokede, appeared to be offended by the action and expressed his displeasure by saying the union shouldn't be connected to such.
