Inter Milan defeated Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals thanks to goals from Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez.
With a stunning volley from Ivan Perisic’s cross, Dzeko gave Inter a second-minute lead against his former team.
Inter dominated play early on at the San Siro, with Nicolo Barella’s long-range drive hitting the crossbar after six minutes.
Jose Mourinho’s Roma lost England striker Tammy Abraham to injury late in the game after Alexis Sanchez’s 25-yard drive into the top corner sealed the tie.
Home fans sang Mourinho’s name on his return to the club, with the Portuguese having led them to the treble in 2009-10.
Inter will face either AC Milan or Lazio in the semi-finals.
The Serie A leaders are in contention for all three trophies under Simone Inzaghi this season.
