December 29, 2021 Everton V Newcastle Has Been Postponed

Everton’s Premier League match against Newcastle United on Thursday has been postponed due to coronavirus cases and injuries in the Magpies’ camp.

Newcastle requested that the game be called off after “a number of players and staff” tested positive, as well as “many players” suffering injuries.

Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin were injured during Newcastle’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Monday.

Newcastle United’s postponement application was allowed, according to a statement from the Premier League, since the club “does not have the required number of players available for the match (13 outfield players and one goalkeeper) due to Covid-19 instances and injuries.”

Eddie Howe revealed after his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United that they were “dangerously close” to not being able to field a team for the game against Everton.

Meanwhile, this is the third Toffees encounter in a row to be called off due to outbreaks and injury problems, following matches against Burnley and Leicester.

According to the most recent Premier League statistics, a total of 103 Premier League players and staff tested positive for Covid in the seven days leading up to and including December 26.

As a result, 16 English Premier League games have been postponed in December.
