The Federal government is set to release a new travel protocol as a proactive measure to prevent the Omicron COVID variant from entering Nigeria.
National incident manager of the presidential taskforce on COVID-19, Mukhtar Muhammad said this at a media briefing in Abuja.
The index case of Omicron was detected in South Africa last week and the World Health Organisation subsequently designated Omicron as a “variant of concern” calling on global leaders to take action to contain its spread.
On his part, the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa debunked claims that cases of the variant have been detected in Nigeria.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire said Nigeria is adopting a watchful waiting posture.
In an interview with inspiration FM, the Chairman, Committee on COVID-19, Nigerian Medical Association Lagos state Chapter, Dr. Japheth Olu-Gbo-Gi encouraged all those who have not been vaccinated to go get the shot as the W.H.O. continues its findings.
