May 17, 2021 NLC In Kaduna State Begins Five-Day Warning Strike To Protest Sacking Of Workers

The Nigerian Labour Congress and its affiliate unions in Kaduna state has made good their threats by embarking on a five-day warning strike over the recent disengagement of civil servants by the state government.

Already the state has been thrown into total black out as the Management of Kaduna Electric said it was due to the planned NLC strike.

This was contained in a statement issued by ABDULAZEEZ ABDULLAHI, Head of Corporate Communication of the company in Kaduna.

He said the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN knocked off all our 33KV lines in Kaduna State in compliance with the NLC directive.

In April, Kaduna state Governor NASIR EL-RUFAI, disengaged 4,000 workers across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state, citing the state's high wage bill as reason.

But the NLC Chairman in Kaduna, AYUBA SULEIMAN, kicked against the move and resolved to ground activities in the state with the warning strike.

But reacting, the Kaduna State Government defended its decision, saying it is in the interest of over 10 million citizens of the state.

The State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, JAFARU SANI, said not even the threat of industrial action or blackmail by the union will make the state government to reverse its decision.
