Federal And State Governments Set To Meet On Sharing Of Covid-19 Vaccine As Nigeria Records Fresh 464 Cases Of Coronavirus

The Minister of Health, Dr OSAGIE EHANIRE, is expected to meet today with commissioners for health in the 36 states as part of efforts to ensure effective sharing and distribution of COVID-19 vaccine.

This comes as Nigeria recorded fresh 464 cases of coronavirus in 20 states and the FCT.

Nigeria on Tuesday received 3.94 million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, becoming the third African country to benefit from the COVAX facility after Ghana and Ivory Coast.

COVAX, an initiative co-led by the Vaccine Alliance, GAVI and the World Health Organisation seeks to ensure equitable access to a COVID-19 vaccine by dividing about two billion doses across 92 low-and middle-income countries.

The breakdown of the new cases shows that Lagos recorded-131 Kaduna-69 Akwa Ibom-33 Imo-31 Katsina-30 Kano-26 Ondo-23 Yobe-20 FCT-18 Ogun-13.

Others states with new infections are Rivers-12 Kebbi-11 Ekiti-9 Osun and Oyo-6 cases each, Borno, Gombe and Plateau states had 5 fresh cases, Edo-4 Abia-3 Delta-3 and Zamfara-1.

The country had so far recorded 156,963 cases and 1,939 deaths from the virus.
