‘Aki And Pawpaw’ Remake Grosses N30 Million In Opening Weekend

The comedy remake premiered in cinemas on December 17, 2021.

Play Network studios and FilmOne Entertainment's new comedy remake, 'Aki and Pawpaw' kicked off its theatrical release on an impressively high note last weekend.

The comedy which premiered on December 17, reportedly grossed an impressive N30 million in box office in its opening weekend.

Confirming the film's huge feat, co-producer Mimi Bartels wrote on Instagram:

"Close one! Thank you Nigeria. We had to contend with Hollywood and still stood strong and it is all because of you."

The film's impressive opening weekend numbers comes amid the release of major titles including Marvel's 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'.

Starring Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme for their reunion as onscreen twin brothers, the sequel written by Steph Boyo and Ozioma Ogbaji follows their adventures with a social media influenced fortune hunt.

Yuletide: FG Declares Free Train Rides From Dec 24 To Jan 4

The Federal Government has declared free train rides for citizens from December 24, 2021 to January 4, 2022.

Managing Director, Nigeria Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Abuja.

He said, ”The decision which was made in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation, is to ease movement of citizens during the yuletide.

”This is to help ease the cost of transportation and enable citizens move easily enjoy the festive period.

”Passengers are, however, advised to ensure they obtain their tickets from appropriate quarters at no cost, to enable them gain access and enter the trains.

” All passengers are also enjoined to observe and obey COVID-19 rules by wearing of face mask, washing and sanitising of hands. “

He also reiterated the federal government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of passengers and trains during the period.

Christmas Eve: Panic As High-Tension Cables Fall In Lagos

There was tension in Igando and Idimu areas of Lagos State after high-tension cables fell across major roads and vehicles in the axis.

It was learnt that the cables fell after the pylon transmitting electricity from Egbin Hydro Power Station collapsed Friday morning.

The cables also fell on shanties located under the pylons in the densely populated area.

As of the time of filing this report, no casualty has been recorded.

This as the National Emergency Management Authority appealed to residents to be safety conscious.

South-West Co-ordinator of NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, said officials of the agency were at the scene of the incident to prevent loss of lives and destruction of more properties.

Farinloye said power service agencies and other officials have isolated the 330kva line.

Farinloye said, “Residents of Igando, Idimu Axis are strongly advised to observe serious safety precautions due to the collapse of high tension poles that emanated from Egbin Hydro power station.

“The line is from Ikorodu across Ikeja and other areas. The Fire Service has been mobilised to provide cover in case of fire outbreak.”
