Leicester Defeat Liverpool As Salah Has Penalty Saved

Leicester defeated Liverpool 1-0, leaving the Reds six points off the top of the Premier League table. Ademola Lookman scored the game’s only goal.

The Reds’ best chance came in the first half, when Mohamed Salah had a penalty saved by Kasper Schmeichel in the 15th minute and then headed the rebound over the bar.

After that, Sadio Mane wasted a few chances for Jurgen Klopp’s side until the hosts made them pay in the 59th minute.

With only his fourth touch after coming on, former Everton attacker Lookman received Kiernan Dewsbury-pass Hall’s in his stride, beat Joel Matip, and rifled a shot past Alisson – Leicester’s sole shot on target.

Leicester held on against late Liverpool pressure despite missing numerous first-team players – just six days after blowing a 3-1 lead to lose on penalties to the same opponents in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Liverpool are now six points behind Manchester City after their second defeat of the season, while Leicester, who have won only two of their seven games, have moved up to ninth place.

If Pep Guardiola’s City win Brentford and Chelsea at least draw with Brighton on Wednesday, the Reds may finish third in 2021, nine points behind the leaders.

Everton V Newcastle Has Been Postponed

Everton’s Premier League match against Newcastle United on Thursday has been postponed due to coronavirus cases and injuries in the Magpies’ camp.

Newcastle requested that the game be called off after “a number of players and staff” tested positive, as well as “many players” suffering injuries.

Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin were injured during Newcastle’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Monday.

Newcastle United’s postponement application was allowed, according to a statement from the Premier League, since the club “does not have the required number of players available for the match (13 outfield players and one goalkeeper) due to Covid-19 instances and injuries.”

Eddie Howe revealed after his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United that they were “dangerously close” to not being able to field a team for the game against Everton.

Meanwhile, this is the third Toffees encounter in a row to be called off due to outbreaks and injury problems, following matches against Burnley and Leicester.

According to the most recent Premier League statistics, a total of 103 Premier League players and staff tested positive for Covid in the seven days leading up to and including December 26.

As a result, 16 English Premier League games have been postponed in December.

Court Seizes 60 Illegally-Acquired Buildings From Former NSCDC Official

The accused has already jumped bail and is now a fugitive from the law.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the seizure of 60 buildings and a 9.6 hectare plot of land from a former official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).

Adenike Ishola Bintu, a former Deputy Commandant, had been accused of illegally acquiring the seized properties through corrupt means.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) told the court that she set up a private company, Faith Winners Victory Properties Limited, to dupe members of the public.

She allegedly sold plots of land to over 1,000 people after telling them the NSCDC was a partner in the estate business.

The clients paid her millions of naira but were never allocated the plots of land.

The ICPC told the court that she violated the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, but she argued that the Act had already been repealed and she had no case to answer to the anti-graft agency.

Justice O. A. Egwuata dismissed her argument and forfeited the disputed properties, located at Sabon-Lugbe South-West Extension, Airport Road, Abuja, to the Federal Government.
