Johanna Konta: British Former Wimbledon Semi-Finalist And World Number Four Retires

Britain's former world number four Johanna Konta has announced her retirement from professional tennis.

Konta, 30, reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2017 - the first British woman to achieve the feat in 39 years.

She also made the last four at the 2016 Australian Open and the 2019 French Open, while her best result at the US Open was a quarter-final run in 2019.

She made the announcement on social media, saying she was "grateful" for the career she had had.

"Through my own resilience and through the guidance of others, I got to live my dreams," she posted. "I got to become what I wanted and said as a child. How incredibly fortunate I count myself to be."

Born to Hungarian parents in Australia before moving to the UK aged 14, Konta switched allegiance in 2012 and went on to become the most successful British female player of her generation.

In an impressive career, Konta earned a number of accomplishments that no other woman from the nation had achieved for more than 30 years.

As well as her Grand Slam performances and ranking among the world's best, she also won four titles on the WTA Tour and represented Britain in the Fed Cup.

Everton Vs Liverpool: ‘Benitez Will Feel The Heat If The Toffees Get Klopp-Ed’ –Ian Rush

Ahead of tonight’s Everton – Liverpool Premier League clash, The Reds legend, Ian Rush, has reflected on what it was like – and what it meant – to play in a Merseyside Derby back in the day; and gave his personal favourite memory from playing at Goodison Park during his time as a player.

In an exclusive interview, Rush also previews this evening’s match and has his say on now-under-pressure Rafael Benitez’s shock move to Everton.

Rush Reflects on his Merseyside Derby Days: “It may not be the biggest game in English football like it was in the 1980s, but for the supporters the Merseyside derby is as important as ever. In the late 80s, Liverpool and Everton were the two best teams in Europe – not just in England.

“There were a lot of scousers playing for both teams back then, which gave it an extra edge. These days Premier League teams are very continental, and you wonder if some of the players know how much it means to the supporters. Sometimes it takes them two or three experiences of a Merseyside derby to appreciate the scale of this fixture.

Haaland Interested In Manchester City Move

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland is supposedly open to a move to Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

BVB managed to fend off competition for the Norwegian’s services in the most recent transfer window, but his £64m release clause is set to kick in next summer.

City have unsurprisingly been tipped as one of the favourites for Haaland’s signature, but the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move.

Now, Norwegian football expert Andreas Korssund claims that a move to the Etihad would be of interest to Haaland, writing on Twitter: “Manchester City remains the most likely club to sign Erling Haaland when his summer 2022 release clause kicks in.
