6 Killed in Zamfara As Bandits Block Kaura Namoda — Shinkafi Road

Six persons have been killed and several others abducted in an attack on motorists by bandits along Kaura Namoda – Shinkafi road in Zamfara State.

Residents aaid that the armed men burnt some of the intercepted vehicles with people onboard and that the bodies of the slain passengers could not be recovered.

They said the armed criminals mostly led by Turji had intensified attacks on Shinkafi – Kaura Namoda axis after Nigerian Air Force (NAF) raids killed his aunt, her husband and several foot soldiers of his.

“The armed criminals had blocked the road at a spot between Kwanar Jangeru and Moriki community and commuters have since stopped plying the road citing safety concerns. No one can go to retrieve the bodies of the slain passengers on that road,” said a resident, who preferred not to be named.

“You know the recent air strikes by NAF had drawn their anger. It had hit some of Turji’s camps after which many of his family members and boys were taken out,” a resident who gave his name as Mansur said.

However, some residents said the armed criminals had stepped up their attacks on people to protest the prolonged closure of livestock market in Shinkafi town.

Minister Of Information Lai Mohammed Carpets UK Decision To Add Nigeria To Red List

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has carpeted the decision by the United Kingdom to add Nigeria on its red list over the new variant of COVID-19 named Omicron.

While speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Lai Mohammed described the move  as unjust, unfair, punitive, indefensible, and discriminatory, pointing out that it is also not driven by science.

He said, “As you are aware, Britain has put Nigeria on its red list and banned foreign travels from our country. This is as a result of the discovery of COVID-19 cases – Omicron variant – in Nigeria. Britain now joins other countries, including Canada, which have taken similar action against Nigeria over Omicron.

“Let me say straight away that it’s up to the Presidential Steering Committee to respond to this action by the British government and others, and I have no doubt that the Committee will respond appropriately.

“However, as the Spokesman for the Federal Government, I can say, without mincing words, that the decision by the British government to put Nigeria on the red list, just because of less than two dozen cases of Omicron which, by the way, did not originate in Nigeria, is unjust, unfair, punitive, indefensible and discriminatory. The decision is also not driven by science.”

Beverly Naya Reacts To Ban On African Countries Due To The Covid-19 Omicron Variant

The movie star wants African countries to collectively ban foreigners as a retaliative move.

Nollywood actress Beverly Naya has reacted to the banned placed on some African countries due to the covid-19 Omicron variant.

In a series of tweets shared via her Twitter page on Sunday, December 5, 2021, the movie star expressed worry over the manner Africans are treated by the western world.

"Breaks my heart every time I hear Africans talking about how much our continent needs the western world when it is actually the other way round. The media has seriously done a number on a lot of African minds. Do your research, I beg you! The world is nothing without Africa," she tweeted.

"African nations need to form an alliance and ban all of these countries. To hell with the narrative they’ve pushed for centuries, this continent has EVERYTHING they need. Africa’s biggest problem is poor leadership which is the sole reason why the above may never happen."

It would be recalled that the United Kingdom banned foreign travellers from Nigeria over the spread of the new covid-19 variant, Omicron.
