National Security Adviser Lists Three Islamic Sponsors Of Terror Groups In Nigeria

The Department of State Services has raised alarm that certain groups and individuals intend to cause a breakdown of law and order in the country.

The Service said it has also observed that some persons who are desperately seeking power are sponsoring wrong information to mislead citizens and overheat the polity.

It said already, such persons are exploiting and politicizing the issue of insecurity in parts of the country for pecuniary and other selfish reasons.

Addressing reporters at the DSS headquarters, Spokesman of the Service, Dr. Peter Afunanya, said they want to use the situation to cause divisions among citizens, seek cheap popularity and present the country as ungovernable.

In his reaction, a security expert, Dr. Kabiru Adamu said it was right for the DSS to raise alarm but also expect it to advise Nigerians on what to do in order not to fall a victim.

Aubameyang Stripped Of Arsenal Captaincy

Arsenal have stripped Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the club captaincy following a disciplinary breach last week.

Aubameyang was left out of the squad for Saturday's match against Southampton, and Arsenal confirmed their decision to remove the forward as captain on Tuesday.

The club also said Aubameyang will not be available for selection against West Ham on Wednesday.

"We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed," the club said in a statement.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta said that the "painful" decision had been made to "defend the interests of the football club".

The Spaniard confirmed that both he and senior club officials had held face-to-face conversations with Aubameyang to inform him of their decision.

Richarlison Out For Several Weeks With Calf Injury

Everton forward Richarlison is out for a "number of weeks" with the calf injury he sustained in their 3-1 defeat by Crystal Palace.

He was substituted after 58 minutes of the game - a decision which saw manager Rafael Benitez booed by Everton fans.

But Benitez said after the game he had taken him off because of the injury.

The Palace match also saw Andros Townsend fracture his foot and captain Seamus Coleman sustain bone bruising and soft tissue damage.

Both players will continue to be assessed but they add to Everton's mounting injury list.

England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been out since August with a thigh problem.

Benitez is also without midfielder Tom Davies (knee) and defender Yerry Mina, who lasted just 31 minutes on his comeback after two months out before sustaining a calf problem.

Everton are currently 14th in the Premier League.

DSS, Police Force Protesters Off The Streets Of Katsina Over Insecurity

Operatives of the Department of State Services and the Police have dispersed protesters who trooped to the streets of Katsina to register their grievances over the spate of killings in the state and other parts country.

The protesters, who wielded placards, had converged on Kofar Soro roundabout, emir’s palace.

Before the arrival of the security operatives, Comrade Bishir Dauda Unguwa, the National Secretary of Muryar Talaka, one of the conveners of the protest, said the protest was to draw the attention of government “to take the right steps towards addressing the degenerating challenge of insecurity in the north and the country as a whole.
