President Buhari Signs N17.13 Trillion 2022 Budget Into Law

The budget is based on an oil benchmark of $62/barrel.

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the N17.13 trillion 2022 appropriation bill into law.

The national assembly recently passed the bill and transmitted same to the president for assent.

The president has also signed the Finance Bill into law.

Lawmakers increased the budget spending by N735.8 billion from the proposed N16.391tn.

They also raised the oil benchmark from $57 per barrel as proposed by the executive, to $62/barrel.

The national assembly also fixed oil production at 1.88 million barrels per day, exchange rate at N410.15 to the dollar, GDP at 4.2 percent and inflation at 13 percent.

Ay’s ‘Christmas IN Miami’ Hits N100.7 Million In 1st Week.

Christmas in Miami, the latest film in the Akpos franchise created by comedian Ayo Makun, has raced to N100.7 million in its opening week at the box office.

The comedy film made a total of N100,695,675 as its 7-day gross, according to figures compiled by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).

The film was screened in 61 locations and watched by more than 49,000 viewers since its December 24, 2021 release.

The film’s performance is the best opening of any Nollywood film this year, and finished the week second only to Disney’s Spider-Man: No Way Home which ended its second week in Nigerian cinemas with a 7-day gross of N172.3 million, and N451.4 million in total.

The Aki and Pawpaw nostalgia project by Play Network Studios finished the week in third place, sweeping N29.7 million at the box office to end up with N80.4 million after two weeks of screening.

Christmas in Miami is the fourth installment in the Akpos film series, following 30 Days in Atlanta (163.4 million box office return), A Trip to Jamaica (N180.3 million), and 10 Days in Sun City (N176.7 million).

AY’s Merrymen: The Real Yoruba Demons (N235.6 million) and Merry Men 2: Another Mission (N234.5 million) nets him a total of five films in the Top 15 list of highest grossing Nollywood films of all time.

Christmas in Miami has already sailed all the way up to 19th position with its opening week performance and should hope to reach the highs of Funke Akindele‘s Omo Ghetto: The Saga which became the highest grossing Nollywood film of all time this year with a total box office return of N636.1 million.

The film stars AY, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and Osita Iheme as a family at the Intercontinental Christmas Fiesta competing against other families of diverse backgrounds on an exotic island in Miami.

Directed by Robert Peters, the film also features international stars like John Amos, Manoj Chandra, Tanya Price, Barry Piacente, Sterling Royston and more.

Kidnapped Plateau Traditional Ruler Regains Freedom

The kidnapped paramount ruler of Gindiri town of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Charles Mato Dakat, has regained freedom.

The Spokesman of the State Police Command, ASP Ubah Gabriel, confirmed the release of the monarch.

Dakat was kidnapped in the early hours of Sunday.

One of his family members had narrated how gunmen gained access into the traditional ruler’s compound after demolishing part of the fence of the house and destroying the window to his room.

His kidnappers had earlier demanded N500million ransom but it is unclear if they collected any amount before releasing him.

Mikel Arteta To Miss Man City Clash Following Positive Covid Test

Mikel Arteta will miss Arsenal’s match against Manchester City on New Year’s Day after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Spaniard, who also contracted the virus in March 2020 prompting the shutdown of football at the start of the pandemic, is now isolating.

Despite the positive test, the Arsenal manager is still planning to speak to the media from his home on Thursday to preview the match against City.

A statement from the club read: “Mikel Arteta will miss our match against Manchester City on New Year’s Day after testing positive for Covid-19.

“Mikel is isolating in line with Government guidelines and we wish him well.”

Arteta will face an isolation period of one week. At present, people who receive negative lateral flow results on day six and day seven of their self-isolation period – with tests taken 24 hours apart – no longer have to stay indoors for a full 10 days.
