Ten people lost their lives in Jigawa State following a tragic accident on the Kano-Hadejia Road in Yanfari village, Taura Local Government Area. A Toyota Hummer bus, en route from Kano to Hadejia and carrying eleven passengers, collided with a parked trailer on the evening of November 10th around 9:30 p.m., according to a statement from the Jigawa State Police Command.
The bus, driven by 35-year-old Sani Mainasara, struck a stationary trailer with registration number RGN 180 ZC, causing it to overturn. The driver and nine passengers died instantly due to the impact.
“Our patrol team from Taura Division responded quickly to the scene. The victims were taken to Hadejia General Hospital, where a doctor confirmed them deceased,” said Lawan Adam, spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command.
One passenger survived and is currently receiving treatment at Majia Primary Health Care Centre, where they are reported to be responding well.
The police have opened an investigation into the accident to assess potential negligence. “The investigation is underway, and anyone found culpable will be held accountable,” Lawan added.
The Jigawa State Police Command expressed condolences to the victims’ families and urged drivers to exercise caution to prevent future incidents.
