Security Agencies Have No Right To Declare Anyone Terror Financier — Gumi

Popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has said that security agencies have no right to declare any Nigerian a terror financier.

Gumi stated this in reaction to a recent list by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), declaring his close associate, Kaduna-based publisher Tukur Mamu, and 14 others, as terror sponsors.

The NFIU reportedly listed the identities of the 15 entities, including nine individuals and six Bureau de Change (BDC) operators and firms.

One of the identified individuals is Mamu, who is currently being tried by the Federal Government for allegedly aiding the terrorists who attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train in March 2022.

According to the NFIU, MAMU “participated in the financing of terrorism by receiving and delivering ransom payments over the sum of 200,000 US dollars in support of ISWAP terrorists for the release of hostages of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack.

Speaking on the listing of MAMU as a terror sponsor, GUMI said since the case is in court, people must wait for the court to state if MAMU is a terrorism financier or not, and that if he is acquitted, he can press libel charges, and if he is found guilty by the court, he should face the music.

Reacting to this, callers on our political program, All Out Politics, called for an investigation into Gumi and his comments.

NBA Condemns Invasion of Justice Mary Odili’s Residence by Security Operatives

The Nigerian Bar Association has condemned the invasion by security operatives on the residence of a Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Mary Odili, insisting that as ministers in the temple of justice, lawyers must speak in one voice against any evil against the Bench.

The President of NBA, Olumide Akpata, said this at the Court Room of the Supreme Court of Nigeria during a valedictory special court session in honor of late Justice of the Apex Court, Justice Samuel Oseji.

Akpata said the NBA was dissatisfied with the denials emanating from the relevant agencies and departments of government and vowed that the organization would leave no stone unturned in its bid to unmask those behind this attack and to bring to justice anyone found culpable, no matter how highly placed.
