Mourinho Claims Real Madrid Prevented Him from Accepting National Team Role

Former Roma manager Jose Mourinho has disclosed that he was presented with the opportunity to manage a national team, but Real Madrid prevented him from pursuing it.

In an interview with TribalFootball, Mourinho revealed that Portugal offered him the job on two occasions, but due to his commitments to club football, he couldn't accept it.

"I had the chance to become the Portugal coach twice. The first time was when I was at Real Madrid, but Florentino [Perez] told me, 'No chance'," Mourinho explained.

"The second opportunity arose during my time at Roma, but I was dismissed a few months later; however, I don't regret it because I am content with the reason."

Mourinho recently expressed his desire to return to coaching during the summer, stating, "I want to work."

Having managed top clubs such as Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Roma, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and FC Porto, Mourinho could have potentially taken on the role of leading his national team.

Allow Mainoo To Grow At His Own Pace –Bellingham Warns

Real Madrid standout Jude Bellingham emphasized the importance of allowing his England teammate, Kobbie Mainoo, to develop at his own pace. Bellingham's remarks come in the wake of Mainoo's standout performance during England's recent 2-2 draw against Belgium in an international friendly yesterday.

Mainoo, who has shown promise during his tenure with Manchester United in the Premier League, has earned two caps under the guidance of Gareth Southgate. As the Euro 2024 Championship approaches, Bellingham, speaking with Channel 4, stressed the necessity of handling Mainoo with care.

Reflecting on Mainoo's performance, Bellingham acknowledged his talent, stating, "He was good tonight. It’s difficult. I’m speaking like the old head here, but I know how hard it can be when there’s a clamor and people put a lot of pressure on you, so I don’t want to add fuel to the fire. But he’s definitely a brilliant player, and he’s going to have an amazing future at Manchester United and hopefully for England as well."

Eduardo Camavinga Extends Real Madrid Contract Until 2029

Eduardo Camavinga of France has extended his contract with Real Madrid until at least 2029, joining Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Eder Militao in signing new deals with the Spanish giants. Camavinga joined the club in 2021 from Rennes and has since won six championships, including the Champions League, La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Club World Cup.

Eduardo Camavinga has signed a new deal with Real Madrid that will keep him at the club until at least the summer of 2029.
The 20-year-old midfielder has already appeared in 114 games for the Spanish giants, winning six titles including the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and the Club World Cup.

Camavinga, who helped France reach the World Cup final last year, will join Real from Rennes in 2021.

He follows team-mates Vinicius Junior, Eder Militao, and Rodrygo in signing new contracts as Real Madrid continues to construct a roster centered on young talent, including Jude Bellingham and international teammate Aurelien Tchouameni.
According to The Athletic, Camavinga’s salary would be dramatically increased, and the new contract will include a €1 billion release clause.

So far this summer, he has appeared in 17 games for club and country, propelling Real Madrid to second place in La Liga, two points behind surprise leaders Girona. Camavinga might make his Champions League debut against Braga on Wednesday, which will be shown live on TNT Sports.

The new deal will officially end on June 30, 2029.

Real Madrid Continues 100% Start And Return To Top

Real Madrid came from behind to extend their 100% start to the season to five games with a 2-1 win against Real Sociedad at the Bernabeu Stadium.

Former Newcastle and Stoke striker Joselu was their unlikely hero, rising at the far post to head home Fran Garcia's cross on the hour.

After netting five times in his first four games for his new club, Jude Bellingham's phenomenal scoring run ended.

Bellingham's best chance came in stoppage time as he rose to meet Brahim Diaz's cross, only for Alex Ramiro to make an excellent save.

However, the England man was pivotal in Real Madrid clawing their way back into the game after they had suffered the shock of conceding in the fifth minute.

On-loan Chelsea’s keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga couldn't keep out Ander Barrenetxea's second effort after he had pushed the first back to the visiting forward.

Sociedad had gone 46 league matches without defeat since they last lost after leading at the break. Still, once Federico Valverde had levelled with a powerful shot from the edge of the area a minute after the resumption, it was likely to be an uphill battle to preserve that record.

The visitors had chances to extend their lead in an open contest as Barrenetxea blazed over after Kepa had pushed another rebound straight to him and saw the Spain international keep another effort out with a full-length save.

But once Real Madrid got themselves in front, they never looked likely to surrender their advantage.

The result maintains Real Madrid's two-point advantage over arch-rivals Barcelona at the top of the table as they get ready to begin their quest for a 15th Champions League crown against German challengers Union Berlin on Wednesday.

Real Sociedad, who were suffering their first defeat of the season, are also in action on Wednesday when they entertain last season's runners-up, Inter Milan.
