Minister Of Mines and Steel Uche Ogar Says Five Billion Dollars In Gold Illegally Smuggled Out Of Nigeria

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr UCHE OGAR, has said that five billion dollars in gold was illegally smuggled out of Nigeria between 2012 and 2018

This he disclosed when President MUHAMMADU BUHARI met with members of the Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Development Initiative at the State House in Abuja.

Dr. OGAR led the delegation and he immediately exposed the discrepancies in the sector.

At the meeting, the President directed the authorities of PAGMI to provide a six-month progress report on the Solid Minerals Development Fund, designed to capture accruals from investments.

Addressing the Steering Committee and Management Team of PAGMI, BUHARI noted that the directive is to further ensure probity and best practice in the mining sector.

SERAP Slams President Buhari With Lawsuit Over Non-Disclosure Of N6trn NDDC Fund Looters

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari over alleged financial misappropriation within the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

This was contained in a lawsuit filed by SERAP lawyers Kolawole Oluwadare and Opeyemi Owolabi, at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

According to the Organisation, this suit is due to the failure of President BUHARI “to publish the names of those indicted in the alleged misappropriation of over N6 trillion in the running of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) between 2000 and 2019, as documented in the recent Forensic Audit Report on NDDC.

SERAP also sought “an order of mandamus to direct and compel President BUHARI to publish the names of those indicted in the alleged misappropriation of over N6trn in the running of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) between 2000 and 2019.

The suit, which has been assigned to Justice Binta Nyako at Court 2, is fixed for hearing on 29th November 2021.

President Buhari Okays N656.11bn Fresh Bailout For 36 States

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a fresh N656.112billion Bridge Financing Facility to the 36 States.

This was disclosed at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The vice president’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement issued after the meeting, said each state would receive N18.225billion with a 30-year tenor, and a 2-year moratorium at an interest rate of 9%.

He said the facility was to help the states afford the repayment of previous bailout facilities guaranteed for them by the Federal Government.

He said the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr. Zainab Ahmed, informed the council that the Bridge Facility is now being processed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Akande said the approved bridge facility of N656.112billion would be disbursed in six tranches over a period of six months to the States.

President Buhari Approves 21 Billion Naira For 14-Bed Presidential Clinic

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the construction and equipping of a 14-bed Presidential Clinic which will cost twenty-one billion naira.

This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, State House, Umar Tijjani when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, to present his 2022 budget proposal for consideration.

He said the physical construction would start on the 1st of November and would be inaugurated on December 31, 2022.

The Permanent Secretary explained that the Presidential Clinic would contain 14-bed facilities with a total area of 2,700 square metres.

He added that there would be an underground, first floor, two operating theatres, two executive suites, two VIP wards, two Isolation wards and a six-bed isolation area in the building.

He added that there would be laboratory, healing garden, pharmacy, and X-ray facility in the clinic.
