President Buhari Says CBN Has His Backing To Redesign Naira Notes

President Muhammadu Buhari has said the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has his backing to redesign the naira notes.

According to the president, Nigeria has a lot to gain from the change in naira notes.

He added that he did not consider the period of three months as too short for the change of the notes.

President Buhari said, “People with illicit money buried under the soil will have a challenge with this but workers, businesses with legitimate incomes will face no difficulties at all,” end of quote.

Reacting to the controversy that has ensued since the announcement of the development by the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, a political economist and former presidential hopeful, Kingsley Moghalu said the CBN is an independent body.

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria said it is odd that the finance minister would say she was not aware of the move, considering that the ministry’s permanent secretary is on the CBN board.

President Buhari Says He Is Disappointed with Intelligence System Over Kuje Prisons Attack After Visit to Facility

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed disappointment with the intelligence system at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja.

The President, who spent about 30 minutes when he visited the facility attacked by terrorists on Tuesday night, angrily said, how can terrorists organize, have weapons, attack a security installation and get away with it?”

Upon arrival, he was briefed about the attack by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Belgore and the Controller General of Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa.

The President who was accompanied by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, said it is surprising that none of the 63 terrorists are accounted for, and at the end of the visit, he said he is expecting “a comprehensive report” on the incident.

The president later departed for Dakar, Senegal.

President Buhari Signs National Health Authority Bill Into Law

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law, the National Health Insurance Authority Bill 2022.

The law repeals the National Health Insurance Scheme Act, Cap N42, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

This is according to a statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu in Abuja.

Speaking at the signing of the new law, President Buhari pledged that a Fund would be set up to ensure coverage of 83 million poor Nigerians who cannot afford to pay premiums as recommended by the Lancet Nigeria Commission.

The statement said the president further elaborated on how the fund would be sourced, saying for the large number of vulnerable individuals who are not able to pay health insurance premiums, a Vulnerable Group Fund will be set up.

It said the authority will collaborate with state government Health Insurance Schemes to accredit primary and secondary health facilities and enroll Nigerians into the scheme in order to ensure the delivery of quality health care.

President Buhari Orders Man-Hunt For Sponsors Of Illegal Oil Refinery In Imo State

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the nation’s armed forces, security and intelligence agencies to intensify the clampdown on illegal refineries following the reports of deaths of several people when an illegal refinery exploded at Abavi forest, in Egbema community, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.

Reacting to what he described as a catastrophe and national disaster, President Buhari said the responsibility for the loss of lives and property must squarely lie with operators of the illegal refinery, who must all be caught and made to face the full weight of the law.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the president appealed to community leaders, the police and secret service not to ever allow the occurrence of such tragic incidence in any part of the country again.
