School Abduction: Sub-Regional Forces Conspiring Against Nigeria, Presidency Alleges

The presidency has alleged that sub-regional forces are working against Nigeria in the school abduction incidents.

Speaking on a monitored program, the President's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said the recent kidnappings in parts of the country are part of a plan by certain regional groups to try and bring down President Bola Tinubu's government.

287 students of LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, were abducted last Thursday.

However, Ngelale said the government is handling the situation well and has gotten help from the US to bring back the schoolchildren and deal with the local groups involved.

The presidential aide, who said there are some gains in the fight against insecurity, suggested capital punishment for the killers.

Atiku Suggests Tinubu Isn’t Fulfilling His Role And Should Emulate Argentina’s Javier Milei For Reform Inspiration

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has attributed Nigeria's economic challenges to President Bola Tinubu.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2023 election made this assertion on his official platform, suggesting that Tinubu should take cues from Argentina’s President, Javier Milei, on swiftly restoring investor confidence despite inheriting a troubled economy.

Atiku criticized the tendency to blame the opposition and previous administrations, emphasizing that Tinubu's reforms were hastily crafted without thorough evaluation.

Nigerians continue to grapple with economic hardships, marked by soaring inflation rates and a high cost of living. In January, Nigeria's headline inflation reached 29.90%, with food inflation standing at 35.42%, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Presidency Criticizes Peter Obi of Labour Party for Attacking Supreme Court, Points Out His Past Judicial Benefits

The Presidency has slammed the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, saying that he once benefited from judicial pronouncements when he reclaimed his mandate as Anambra Governor in 2007 but now castigates the same when the Supreme Court ruled in favour of President Bola Tinubu on October 26, 2023.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made this known in a statement hours after Obi faulted the Supreme Court verdict, which affirmed President Tinubu's victory.

Onanuga said Obi and his party should know that the Supreme Court or any other court does not give judgment based on public opinion and mob sentiments, adding that judicial pronouncements are based on evidence, precedents, and the rule of law.

The presidential aide said the former governor of Anambra should quit criticism and congratulate President Tinubu, adding that his decision to play opposition is a welcome development.

A cross-section of callers on our political programme, All Out Politics, also commented on the press conference by Peter Obi.

Yacht Listed In Supplementary Budget Is For Navy

The Presidency has said that the yacht listed in the 2023 supplementary budget is an Operational Naval Boat and not for President Bola Tinubu’s usage.

The listing of the yacht in the budget which was passed yesterday had elicited criticisms from Nigerians who faulted the government’s plan to purchase such for the President despite the country’s harsh economic situation.

But in a statement, the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said contrary to speculation, the yacht is a naval vessel.

According to him, it is called a presidential yacht by way of nomenclature because of the high-level security features, adding that the boat was ordered by the navy under the previous administration.

Also speaking on the issue, the Chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Bichi, said the House has dropped the yacht and re-allocated the money for Students’ Loan.
