Falcons Camp Opens: Oshoala Anticipated to Join on Thursday for Paris 2024

As the eagerly-awaited showdown between Nigeria and South Africa looms for a coveted spot in the women’s football event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the Super Falcons camp kicks off on Sunday with a notable absence.
The Nigeria Football Federation reveals that Asisat Oshoala won't join until Thursday.Rasheedat Ajibade, the Captain and Atletico Madrid forward, will lead the charge as the team gears up for the clash against Banyana Banyana. Both teams, considered the top women's football teams in Africa, will engage in a two-legged battle for one of the two Olympic slots.

The first leg is set for Friday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, with the return leg scheduled at the Loftus Versfeld arena in Pretoria five days later. Ajibade, renowned for her prowess, alongside home-based goalkeeper Linda Jiwuaku and defender Jumoke Alani, are among the early arrivals.Newcomer Shukurat Oladipo, veteran goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi, Japan-based Chidinma Okeke, and Spain-based forward Gift Monday are expected to join the camp on Monday. The remainder of the squad will arrive by Tuesday, with Oshoala, based in the USA, arriving last on Thursday.South Africa's delegation, including 24 players, is set to arrive in Abuja on Monday evening.

The Falcons are determined to break their streak of not defeating Banyana Banyana in regular time, especially after South Africa claimed the Women Africa Cup of Nations trophy last year.Nigeria will rely on goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Osinachi Ohale and Michelle Alozie, midfielders Halimatu Ayinde and Christy Ucheibe, alongside forwards Esther Okoronkwo and Uchenna Kanu, among others, to secure victory in this crucial fixture.

President Buhari In Paris For Peace Forum

President Muhammadu Buhari, has arrived in Paris, French capital, for a one-day official visit as guest of President Emmanuel Macron at Palais de l’Élysée and will afterward attend the three-day Paris Peace Forum (PPF).

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said during the official visit that Buhari will meet with his French counterpart to discuss issues of mutual interest for both countries, particularly on strengthening economic ties, improving partnership on security, and working jointly on education, health and halting the threats of COVID-19 to the global economy.

From tomorrow, President Buhari will join world leaders, heads of international organisations, leaders of civil society and the private sector at Grande Halle de La Villette to strategise on better governance for a peaceful world, with plenaries, master classes and workshops.

US Rapper Lil Baby Held In Paris For Drug Possession

Paris police on Thursday arrested American singer Lil Baby for allegedly “carrying drugs”, police sources said.

NBA star James  Harden, in the French capital with the rapper for Fashion Week, was also stopped and searched but released, the sources said.

Baby, real name Dominique Jones, was in a parked car from which “wafted a smell of cannabis”, the source said.

During the search on the chic Avenue Montaigne in the heart of the capital “about 20 grams of cannabis grass were discovered” in the car, Le Parisien newspaper reported.

Baby was taken to a nearby police station and kept in custody. 

n a video posted on Twitter, Harden, who has played for the Brooklyn Nets since January, can be seen surrounded by several police officers, with one patting him down.

The prosecutor’s office said an investigation was opened for transporting drugs.

Baby, part of the Black Lives Matter movement, was twice  nominated for a Grammy music award in 2020 for “The Bigger Picture”.
