Osun Alleges Plot To Attack Schools, Farm Settlements

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said his administration has uncovered plans by criminals to attack schools and farm settlements in rural communities in the state.

The governor, who raised the alarm in a statement by his spokeswoman, Olawale Rasheed, said those behind the plot plan would disrupt the implementation of the infrastructure plan of his administration and cause apprehension in the state.

He noted that “those behind the plot are targeting disruption of farming activities through kidnappings and attacks on rural farm settlements.

The statement equally said that schools are being targeted with abductions and attacks as a way of distracting from the implementation of the Safe School initiative and the multi-billion naira infrastructure plan.

Adeleke, however, said he had convened a meeting of the state security council to prevent security breaches in any part of the state.

He referred to intelligence snippets of “deliberate mobilization of criminal elements to the rural areas of the state,” stressing that such reports were alarming and posed serious concerns for the well-being of the Osun people.

In the interim, Governor Adeleke said preliminary directives had been issued to school authorities to take precautions to enhance the safety of pupils and students.

JUSUN Declares Indefinite Strike In Osun

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State Chapter, has initiated an indefinite industrial action with immediate effect.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the state chapter's JUSUN chairman, Oluwagbenga Olakunle Eludire.

The strike follows a two-day protest on Monday and Tuesday by Osun JUSUN, centring on allegations of maladministration against the embattled Osun Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo. JUSUN members accused Justice Adepele Ojo of unfairly persecuting certain staff members and withholding their entitlements, including the reinstatement of suspended judiciary staff in the state, arrears of wardrobe allowances from 2021 to 2023, and the restoration of training exercises.

Eludire, in issuing the directive for the strike, emphasised the need for the immediate regularisation and promotion exercise for JUSUN members, as well as the prompt implementation of other entitled benefits without further delays. He instructed all judiciary workers in the state to refrain from attending courts, stay away from their offices, and withdraw their services.

This industrial action reflects the discontent within the Osun State judiciary, with JUSUN members seeking redress for alleged grievances against the Chief Judge.
