The Akoko area of Ondo State's native Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, a member of the House of Representatives from the state, has introduced a N50 million scholarship program for 1000 needy children.

The politician, who represents the Akoko North-East/North-West Federal Constituency, said that the goal of the program was to help the nation's poor students who were enrolled in academic schools.

The House Committee on Niger-Delta Affairs Chairman, Tunji-Ojo, said in a statement made available to our reporter on Monday that the action was a part of his efforts to support the educational advancement of his district and the state as a whole.

According to the announcement, impoverished students from the Federal Constituency were eligible to register for the scholarship program, which had started on Monday.

This is in fulfillment of my education support drive, which has seen me facilitate several classroom blocks, computer sets, educational materials, free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination forms, coaching for 2,000 students, and other notable interventions in the education sector, according to the statement.

“The education support drive is to help reduce the burden of education on the parents and also ensure that no child is denied access to quality education.”

“The registration form is totally free and can be obtained from presidents of students’ bodies in each community in the Federal Constituency. This is to ensure that nobody is denied access to the form.”

Akeredolu Accuses Police of Collecting bribes, allowing vehicles into Ondo state

Ondo State Governor, ROTIMI AKEREDOLU, has lamented the influx of people from other states despite the ban on inter-state movement.

He alleged that the police were frustrating the effort of the state government at containing the spread of the deadly disease by allowing people to enter the state after receiving bribe from them.

The Governor was reacting through his Special Adviser on Special Duties, DOYIN ODEBOWALE, who visited the state boundaries on Sunday.

Addressing the policemen, ODEBOWALE accused them of corruption by allowing unauthorised vehicles to pass through.

But in a swift reaction, the head of the police team, EBISINE AMY, denied the allegation, saying the policemen at the boundary were doing the work professionally.
