Oil Ownership: ACF Backs Obasanjo, PANDEF, INC FUME, Say Constitution Fraudulent

The northern socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, has disagreed with the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, the Ijaw National Congress and some civil rights groups over the ownership of crude oil in the Niger Delta.

The ACF spokesman, EMMANUEL YAWE, in an interview supported the position of former President OLUSEGUN OBASANJO that the crude oil in the Niger Delta belonged to the Federal Government not people in the region.

But PANDEF, the INC and other groups that spoke faulted the former president and supported an elder statesman, Chief EDWIN CLARK, who lambasted OBASANJO over his position on the oil in the Niger Delta.

OBASANJO had at a peace and security parley convened by the Global Peace Foundation and Vision Africa a few weeks ago attacked the National Secretary of the INC, EBIPAMOWEI WODU, over the latter’s outburst.

High Chief ANABS SARA-IGBE, speaking on Inspiration FM’s All Out Politics, said OBASANJO has always had disdain for the Niger Delta.

The former spokesman for the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, insisted that oil belonged to the Niger Delta people.

Senate Tells International Oil Companies To Relocate Headquarters To Niger Delta

The senate has told international oil companies (IOCs) operating in the Niger Delta region to relocate their headquarters to their states of operation.

Passing this resolution during plenary session following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Albert Akpan, a lawmaker from Awka Ibom, the upper legislative chamber, was ostensibly reacting to calls by the oil-producing states for the relocation of the IOCs and their subsidiaries from Lagos and Abuja to the south-south region.

Championing the debate on the motion, Akpan said the relocation of the IOCs to their host communities will facilitate development in the areas.

Buhari Says That The Threat Issued By The Niger Delta Avengers Is Unnecessary

President BUHARI has said that the threat issued by the Niger Delta Avengers to resume hostilities is rather unnecessary.

The President in a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Mr. FEMI ADESINA, said that all issues raised by the group were already responded to when he met with the leadership of the Niger Delta and Ijaw National Congress in Abuja.

ADESINA said when the leaders of the Niger Delta and Ijaw National Congress visited the president, issues such as the call for restructuring and the inauguration of a board for the Niger Delta Development Commission were addressed.

He said the President is equally concerned about the rate of environmental degradation in the Niger delta.

According to him, the President has directed the Minister of Environment to ensure that the clean-up in Ogoni land are implemented with a high percentage of local content and inclusion of the surrounding communities.

The militant group, in a statement over the weekend, had announced the launch of 'operation humble', a new mission to resume attacks in the oil-rich region.

They said the south-south remains the most underdeveloped region in the country.

While reacting to the threat on a programme, Dr. EMMANUEL ABOLO said it was good that the federal government was diplomatic on the matter.
