Nick Kyrgios Withdraws From Wimbledon Due To Wrist Injury

Nick Kyrgios, last year's Wimbledon finalist, has unfortunately been forced to withdraw from this year's tournament due to a wrist injury.

In a statement, Kyrgios shared his disappointment, saying, "I'm really sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year."

He explained that he experienced wrist pain during his comeback in Mallorca and, as a precaution, had the injury scanned. The results revealed a torn ligament in his wrist, leaving him with insufficient time to recover and manage the injury ahead of the Grand Slam.

Expressing his determination to return, Kyrgios thanked his fans for their unwavering support. As the 30th seed, he was scheduled to face David Goffin on Monday. However, a lucky loser will take his place in the draw, to be decided on Monday morning.

Kyrgios' participation in Wimbledon was already limited, as he had only played one Tour-level match since undergoing knee surgery in January. Unfortunately, his hopes for a successful campaign at the prestigious tournament have been dashed by this latest setback. While there were initial doubts about his fitness, Kyrgios remained optimistic about his chances before ultimately having to withdraw.

Despite expressing satisfaction with his fitness on the eve of the event, the Australian tennis player has been plagued by injuries this year.

"I still think there are some question marks. Obviously five-set tennis is a completely different beast altogether," Kyrgios had said.

"I look at my preparations last year coming in, I probably had the most ideal preparation possible. It couldn't be any different this year.

"Again, I'm not going to discredit the work I've put in for the past six months just trying to maintain my fitness, get back on court. I've been hitting with some really good players this week and my body is feeling okay.

"I'm going to take it one day at a time. I'm not going to look forward and put unfair expectations on myself. I'm just going to try to do everything I can, prepare, go out there and play some good tennis.

"I've been really disciplined throughout that time. I barely missed any sort of part of the process. I've been working really hard. I've been trying to do everything possible. I feel probably as good as I could feel at the moment.

Obviously my body was just crying out for some sort of rest. I needed to do what I had to do. It’s been brutal. It’s been hard.”

Rafael Nadal Overcomes Injury to Beat Taylor Fritz in Five-Set Quarter-Final Thriller

Rafael Nadal came from behind to beat Taylor Fritz in a five-set quarter-final thriller at Wimbledon as the Spaniard battled injury to keep alive his hopes of a calendar Grand Slam.

Nadal appeared on the verge of withdrawing as he called the trainer to tend to an abdominal issue during the second set, but twice came from a set down against the American to seal a remarkable 3-6 7-5 3-6 7-5 7-6 (10-4) victory in four hours and 20 minutes.

The 36-year-old Spaniard, who won the Australian Open and French Open earlier this year to reach a men’s record 22 Grand Slam singles titles, will face Nick Kyrgios in Friday’s semi-final, after the Australian advanced to the last four for the first time with a straight-sets win over Cristian Garin.

It was American Fritz, seeded 11, who halted Nadal’s winning start to the season at 20 matches in the Indian Wells final in March when the Spaniard was hampered by a fractured rib, and it appeared history was repeating itself.

Nadal seized control of the deciding tie-break by winning the first five points and, although Fritz briefly threatened a comeback, he could not deny the remarkable Spaniard as he clinched victory.

Nadal Survives Spirited Kyrgios To Reach Indian Wells Last Four

Rafeal Nadal overcame a monstrous start and a measured comeback attempt from Nick Kyrgios with an assured finish on Thursday in the BNP Paribas Open quarter-finals.

With the 7-6(0), 5-7, 6-4 victory, Nadal extends his perfect season to 19-0 and improves his record against Kyrgios to 6-3, including wins in their past three meetings.

Nadal trailed by a break in the opening set and faced two break points in his first service game of the decider, but locked in to surge late in both sets and advance.

“I think for moments I played well,” Nadal said post-match. “It’s difficult to play against him, always tough because he changes the dynamic of the point very quick and his serve is huge, especially the first serve.

“I think I played a good third set. Returning better. I was solid with the serve; I just suffered in one game with my serve. Nick is one of these kind of players that you're going to have problems when he’s motivated."

A three-time champion in Indian Wells, Nadal returns to the semi-finals for the 11th time in the desert.
