The Federal Government has ordered the opening of the Second Niger Bridge for use starting from midnight today.

The Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, stated this on Wednesday while inaugurating the bridge for use for one month during the Yuletide.

Fashola, who took a walk around the bridge during the inspection, advised road users plying the bridge to drive safely and responsibly in order not to defeat the purpose of its construction.

He however reminded that the opening was temporary

Speaking on the need for motorists to obey the speed limit rule, the minister added, that the maximum speed limit on Nigerian roads is 100 km per hour.

Afe Babalola Calls For Suspension Of 2023 Elections

The Legal luminary and elder statesman, Afe Babalola has said an interim government should replace the current administration at the expiration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure in 2023.

Babalola, who is the founder of Afe Babalola University, told a news conference in Ado-Ekiti that the interim government should be in office for six months to chart a new course for Nigeria.

He also said the 2023 elections should be suspended until Nigeria has “a new-look peoples’ Constitution which should provide for part-time legislators and non-executive president’’ to conserve resources.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said members of the interim government should be drawn from all living former presidents and vice-presidents; some selected ministers and governors and delegates of prominent professional associations.

The elder statesman noted that such delegates should be elected on zero party basis.

Babalola said it was regrettable that the current 1999 Constitution, foisted on Nigerians by the military was no longer in tune with the realities of the day.

The legal luminary added that any person that would become the president of Nigeria should not be older than 60 years of age and must have a university degree.

Reacting to Afe-Babalola’s call in an interview with Inspiration FM, the Executive Chairman, Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, Debo Adeniran said it is only a sovereign national conference that can deliver a peoples’ constitution but he wondered if any government has the will power to do that.
