Canada Beat Jamaica To Reach First World Cup Since 1986

Canada beat Jamaica 4-0 to reach their first men's World Cup in 36 years.

Victory in Toronto means Canada are assured of finishing in one of the top three places in the final stage of Concacaf qualifying.

Their last World Cup appearance came at Mexico 1986, where they finished bottom of their group without scoring.

Cyle Larin and Tajon Buchanan put Canada 2-0 up at half-time before Junior Hoilett and an Adrian Mariappa own goal sealed the victory.

It led to joyous celebrations from the sell-out crowd at BMO Field as Canada clinched World Cup qualification for only the second time.

The United States, Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama are all in contention for the final two automatic Concacaf qualification spots.

The fourth-placed country in the eight-team table earns a play-off against the winner of Wednesday's final of Oceania qualifying between the Solomon Islands and New Zealand.

USA Beat Mexico In Extra Time To Win Seventh Gold Cup Title

The United States beat Mexico 1-0 in extra time to win the Concacaf Gold Cup for a seventh time.

Atlanta United defender Miles Robinson headed in after 118 minutes in Las Vegas, his third international goal.

The US win is their first in the tournament for North American, central American and Caribbean countries since 2017.

Mexico - the only nation to have won the tournament more often than the US - had the better of the first half and had a promising chance saved when a Rogelio Funes Mori header was turned round the post by US keeper Matt Turner.

Paul Arriola was in on the Mexico goal for the US shortly afterwards but hit the outside of the post, although the miss did not ultimately prove costly as his side went on to win.

BIDEN has said he wants 100 million people vaccinated within his first 100 days in office, and he has called for Americans to wear masks for 100 days.

Mexican President ANDRÉS MANUEL LÓPEZ OBRADOR has announced he has tested positive for Covid-19.

The 67-year-old said on Twitter that his symptoms were mild and that he was "optimistic" following the diagnosis.

Martinez hat-trick fires Argentina over Mexico

Lautaro Martinez fired a 22-minute hat-trick as Argentina thrashed Mexico 4-0 in a friendly international in San Antonio on Tuesday.

Inter Milan striker Martinez scored in the 17th, 22nd and 39th minutes at the Alamodome to give Argentina a deserved win over a lacklustre Mexico team.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes scored Argentina’s other goal from the penalty spot after 33 minutes as the South American giants romped into a 4-0 lead at halftime.

But it was the 22-year-old Martinez who grabbed the headlines with a clinical exhibition of finishing which took his international goals tally to nine in 13 appearances.

Martinez opened the scoring in the 17th minute, picking the ball up deep in Mexican territory before twisting and turning past several defenders and firing low past Guillermo Ochoa.

Martinez bagged his second five minutes later, with River Plate’s Exequiel Palacios punishing sloppy play in the Mexican defence to send the Inter Milan striker through on goal to finish for 2-0.

A disastrous start for Mexico got worse shortly after the half-hour mark when Carlos Salcedo was adjudged to have handled in the area to concede a penalty. Paredes duly stepped up to convert to give Argentina a 3-0 lead.

Martinez completed his hat-trick six minutes from half-time, again capitalising on lackadaisical Mexican defending to dart in and shoot past Ochoa.

Argentina was without several first-choice regulars, with Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Angel Di Maria all missing from their two-game international tour of North America.
