Jamb Announces Free Registration For Persons Living With Disabilities In 2024/2025 UTME

The Registrar of the Joint Administration and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has said that Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD) who intend to take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 2024/2025 can register at no cost.

According to him, efforts have been made to accommodate the needs of all physically challenged individuals, with a particular focus on people who are deaf or hard of hearing and blind people, saying audiobooks will be provided for all blind students.

While speaking on a monitored programme, the JAMB boss said that to ease accessibility, over 11 centres have been established nationwide to cater to their peculiar needs.

Professor Oloyede also said institutions have been instructed to support PLWD for seamless university admission.

In his remarks, Jake Epelle, founder of the Albino Foundation, said school teachers must learn how to relate to PLWD to give them a sense of belonging.

The Joint National Assembly Committee on Appropriations has given the standing committees in both chambers a 48-hour ultimatum to submit their reports on the 2024 budget.

The chairman of the joint committee, Senator Solomon Adeola, issued the order, saying it became necessary to enable the National Assembly pass the N27.5 trillion 2024 budget before the end of this month.

The standing committees had begun submitting their reports yesterday to the joint committee.

The Committee on Tourism, chaired by Senator Ireti Kingibe, and the Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), headed by Senator Victor Umeh, were among the first to submit their reports.

In his remarks at the session, Adeola urged all the standing committees to keep to the deadline.

The joint committee chairman said this would enable the National Assembly to meet the January-December budget cycle.

Anambra Student Mmesoma Confirms Receiving JAMB Text Message with Score of 249

In the ongoing controversy surrounding her UTME result, Mmesoma Ejikeme, the Anambra student accused of manually inflating her score, has provided confirmation that she received an automated text message from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) stating her score as 249.

During an interview with Sunrise Daily on Channels Television, Mmesoma shared this information, countering JAMB's previous claims that she had sent messages showing an aggregate score of 362 to the board's automated telecoms system. The text message she received appears to contradict those allegations.

Responding, Mmesoma said the only SMS she sent to JAMB was through its support system: “That’s the only SMS I sent there.”

Asked if she got any feedback, she said, “They didn’t reply. If they check their JAMB Support System, they would see that I sent a text message. They didn’t reply.”

On the claim that she used an Airtel line, Mmesoma replied: “Yes,” but she added it was “not through USSD code”.

“The one I checked through the USSD code is the one of 360 that I saw,” she explained further.

Responding to the claim that the feedback from JAMB showed her score as 249, she agreed.

“Yes,” she said. “After all was said and done, I now saw that I got 249. I sent them a text message there to know what really happened — the JAMB Support System. If they go to their system, they will see it there.”
