INEC Adds Sylva To Bayelsa Gov Candidates List

Ahead of Saturday’s Governorship Election in Bayelsa State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has added the name of the candidate of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), Timipre Sylva, to the final list of candidates for the poll.

INEC, in the new list published on its website, said the addition of Sylva’s name complied with an Appeal Court judgment delivered on October 31, 2023, which reversed the sacking of Sylva’s candidacy for the poll.

In the new list, Sylva’s name was pencilled as the APC governorship candidate, whilst that of Maciver Joshua was written as his running mate.

The former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and former Bayelsa Governor is running alongside 15 other contenders, including the incumbent governor, Duoye Diri, of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

On October 10, a Federal High Court in Abuja disqualified Sylva from participating in the state governorship election.

However, he appealed the decision of the lower court, and the appellate court ruled in his favour last Tuesday.

President Bola Tinubu has presented the symbolic flag of the All Progressive Congress (APC), to the party’s candidates contesting in the November 11 Governorship Elections in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo States.

The President handed the flags to Hope Uzodinma, Timipreye Sylva and Ahmed Ododo of Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi States, respectively – at the Presidential Villa Abuja where he wished them victory at the off-season elections coming up on November 11.

The National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, led the three candidates to the Presidential Villa where the flags were handed over to them.

President Tinubu in his remarks at the occasion charged them to make the party proud at the polls.

The three candidates later spoke about their chances. First to speak is Governor Uzodinma.

APC Says Atiku Is Suffering From Serial Electoral Losses Over Allegation That President Tinubu Forged Certificate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the push by the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, for the nullification of President Bola Tinubu’s win, as that of someone who is suffering from multiple electoral losses.

Atiku, who lost in the 2023 election and also to Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, had addressed the press after the Chicago State University (CSU) released President Tinubu’s academic credentials which he earlier demanded on the suspicion that the Nigerian leader submitted fake documents for the 2023 exercise.

But speaking on a monitored programme hours after Atiku’s briefing, the Spokesperson of the APC, Felix Morka, faulted the former Vice President’s address.

According to him, Atiku and his team had filed a suit to stop Tinubu’s election on the basis that he did not attend Chicago State University and not a case of forgery as claimed by the PDP candidate.

Akpabio Hails Tribunal Verdict, Tells Nigerians To Support Tinubu’s Govt

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has lauded the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), for affirming the victory of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2023 presidential election.

In a statement released by the Senate President’s Media Unit, Akpabio described the Court verdict as an affirmation of the popular mandate of the Nigerian people for the Tinubu/Shettima ticket of the APC as delivered at the polls in February.

The Senate President noted that the five-member panel painstakingly evaluated all the issues raised by the petitioners and delivered a clear verdict on the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.

He asserted that it is clear to dispassionate observers that despite the challenges, Nigeria’s electoral process is making progress and deserves the appreciation and support of all Nigerians and friends of Nigeria.

Akpabio urged Nigerians to continue supporting the Tinubu government in its drive to deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda of the ruling APC.
