Barcelona Beat Real Betis On Penalties To Set Up Spanish Super Cup Final With Real Madrid

Barcelona advanced to the Spanish Supercopa final in Riyadh on Sunday, where they will face Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in an El Clasico final.

Barca gained the lead in the first half thanks to Robert Lewandowski. However, they were unable to complete the game when Nabil Fekir equalized for Betis with 15 minutes remaining in regular time.

That meant extra time was required, and Xavi’s team quickly put the misery of being held in 90 minutes behind them with a superb volley to make it 2-1. The ball dropped to the 20-year-old, and his execution was flawless as he shot past former Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

Barca, as in normal time, couldn’t hold out and Betis scored a second equalizer thanks to Loren Moron’s stunning backheel. Betis forced penalties despite Andres Guardado’s dismissal for two yellow cards.

Both teams scored their first two goals, with Lewandowski and Franck Kessie for Barcelona and Willian Jose and Loren for Betis. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen was the Blaugrana’s hero, save from Juanmi and William Carvalho, allowing Fati to make it 3-2 before Pedri scored the penalty to take Barca to the final.

David Alaba Scores First Madrid Goal In El Classico

Real Madrid beat Barcelona in a new-look El Clasico to briefly go top of La Liga and leave Ronald Koeman's side down in eighth in the table.

It was the very first Clasico without Barca Legend Lionel Messi or Real icon Sergio Ramos - who both joined Paris St-Germain in the summer - since 2004.

David Alaba started and finished a counter-attack for the first, which was his first goal in a Madrid shirt and Lucas Vazquez got a second in added time.

Sergio Aguero scored his first Barca goal but it was almost the last kick.

Alaba's goal was the best of the game. The former Bayern Munich defender won the ball from Barca striker Memphis Depay on the edge of his box before starting a counter-attack.

He finished it off by running on to Rodrygo's pass before slamming a shot across home keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen into the far corner.

The final two goals came in injury time with Vazquez tapping in after Marco Asensio's shot was saved by Ter Stegen.

Substitute Aguero tapped in Sergino Dest's cross, in what was only Barcelona's second shot on target, but the final whistle went seconds later.

Madrid ended the day one point behind Real Sociedad at the top after the Basque side drew Sunday's late game 2-2 with Atletico Madrid.
