Kaduna Born Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Gumi Insists That Repentant Bandits Should Be Granted Amnesty.

Renowned northern Islamic scholar, Sheikh AHMAD GUMI, is insisting that amnesty should be granted to repentant bandits.

He said if government could pardon coup plotters that committed treasonable felony, there was nothing wrong extending the same gesture to the bandits.

The Islamic cleric, while responding to the Christian Association of Nigeria in Kaduna, said there was need to forgive bandits for the country to have peace.

GUMI added that he never betrayed soldiers of Christian faith before the bandits when he visited them.

He noted that he was misunderstood by CAN because the video that went viral about his discussion with the bandits was distorted and the actual message was manipulated.

The President, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Dr. FELIX OMOBUDE, has said Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop MATTHEW KUKAH, should not be used as the sacrificial lamb.

Speaking to journalists in his church premises in Benin, OMOBUDE backed Bishop KUKAH for speaking the truth at "this critical time of our national life."

He described KUKAH as an advocate of democracy saying he could not have been calling for the military overthrow of the government.

KUKAH, in his Christmas message, titled, 'A nation in search of vindication,' accused the President of deliberately sacrificing the dreams of Nigerians to institutionalize northern hegemony.

The message had drawn the ire of the Presidency, the Northern Elders Forum, Muslim Rights Concern as well as the Coalition of Northern Groups.
