NYSC Confirms Status of Buhari’s Minister as Corps Member

The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that Hannatu Musawa, the minister of art, culture and creative economy, is a serving corps member.

This follows a claim by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), a civil society organisation, that Musawa is undertaking the one-year mandatory youth service scheme while she is still a member of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
Eddy Megwa, director of press and public relations at the NYSC headquarters, confirmed this on Thursday.
On Monday, President Tinubu swore in 45 ministers, including Musawa as members of the federal executive council (FEC).
But in a statement on Wednesday, HURIWA claimed that the culture minister is a member of NYSC, whose place of primary assignment is a law firm in Abuja.

The rights group asked the management of the NYSC to compel Musawa to focus on her national youth service or the ministerial appointment.
The organisation added that the minister was mobilised this year and got posted to a law firm in Abuja before President Tinubu picked her as a nominee.

PDP Condemns Invasion, Killing In Opu-Nembe, Bayelsa Community

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the invasion and killing in Opu-Nembe, Bayelsa State.

The party alleged that the intention of the invasion was to instill fear in the people to prevent them from freely exercising their democratic right to vote for a candidate of their choice in the forthcoming governorship election.

Its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, alleged that the resort to attacks on communities in Bayelsa was because of the rejection of a particular candidate in the November 11, 2023 election.

Peter Obi, Labour Party Call 1st Witness Against Tinubu, APC

The Labour Party and its Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, have opened their petition against President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), by calling one witness out of the 50 proposed.

Before the witness, who is a lawyer and hails from Anambra testified, counsel to Peter Obi, Jibrin Okutepa, tendered a judgment from a district court in the United States, which reportedly indicted Tinubu and ordered his forfeiture of 460,000 dollars in drug-related offences.

The hearing commenced, led in evidence by Okutepa, with an Anambra-based lawyer and LP witness, Lawrence Nwakaeti, tendering the certified true copy of the US district court judgment.

After cross-examination, counsel to Tinubu, Wole Olanipekun, said the witness admitted that the judgment was not registered in Nigeria.

The lawyer also admitted that there was no certificate from any consular in Nigeria or America in support of the judgment but insisted that the judgment speaks for itself.

The Presidential Election Petitions Court reconvened after a week to begin the definite hearing in the petitions by the Presidential Candidates of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), alongside their parties, challenging Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 election.

Fuel Scarcity Hits Cross River, Leaving Passengers Stranded

Gasoline shortage has returned to Cross River State 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu declared the termination of gasoline subsidies.

In his inaugural speech, Tinubu claimed that the gasoline subsidy, which had been a persistent issue in the country, particularly between Organized Labour and the Federal Government, was no longer in effect.

On Tuesday morning, it was discovered that most of the fuel stations that supplied the product 24 hours a day were all locked up, leaving residents stranded.

According to reports, the Atimbo region of Calabar has six operating fuel stations, all of which were locked and not dispensing petroleum products.

Even though two of these fuel stations had fuel trucks arrive to discharge petroleum products, they were still not selling.

A male official at one of the petrol stations, who declined to speak on the situation, stated that they were merely carrying out directions.

Mr. Effiong Nsa, a minibus driver, stated that the majority of the fuel stations that were closed had the products and sold fuel the day before.
