Boko Haram Bows To Superior Firepower Of Soldiers In Borno

Soldiers today, forced Boko Haram fighters out of the Southern part of Borno State, according to sources.

It was gathered that the insurgents stormed Damboa town around 6:35am and opened fire.

This had created tension among residents but troops reportedly engaged them in a heavy shootout, forcing them to beat retreat.

A security source told our correspondent that the attackers could not stay up to 30 minutes after troops engaged them.

“I can confirm to you that Boko Haram insurgents made an attempt this morning but it was not successful, the troops on the ground in Damboa town thwarted it immediately,” the source said.

Suspected Boko Haram Terrorists Attack Community In Borno

Terrorists suspected to be members of Boko Haram have launched a surprise attack on Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Government officials, while confirming this incident said the attack started at about 5: 34pm on Thursday but early reports have it that the insurgents stormed the local government headquarters where most of the villagers live, shooting heavy artillery.

The situation forced villagers to run, with most staying indoors as the shooting continued, according to an official.

Details of casualties are still unclear but villagers believe the attack targeted a mobile police base in the town.

Army Says More Than 8,000 Boko Haram Terrorists Have Surrendered – GOC

The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division, Abdulwahab Eyitayo has said more than 8,000 Boko Haram terrorists have so far surrendered to troops.

He said the terrorists surrendered from their enclaves in Sambisa Forest, as well as other hideouts.

Eyitayo, who is also the Commander, Sector 1, Operation Hadin Kai, disclosed this during a visit by the Director, Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, and a team of Defence Correspondents from Abuja in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

He said the surrender by the repentant terrorists was a welcome development, adding that, the overwhelming fire power of the troops was responsible.

According to him, “one of the reasons they are surrendering in droves is the overwhelming fire power from the troops”.

Boko Haram Attack In Gubja Community In Yobe State Claims Three Lives

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have again launched fresh attack on Gubja community in Damaturu the state capital.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the community in a van and drove straight to a construction company, 40 kilometers from Gubja community Mutai road.

The insurgents killed two mobile police officers, one Nigeria Security Civil Defence corps, before burning down the heavy-duty machines on the site.

Security authorities are yet to confirm the attack but residents said that the attackers stayed on the scene for hours unconfronted before returning to the bush.
