FG Opens Second Niger Bridge, Warns Against Speeding

The Federal Government has ordered the opening of the Second Niger Bridge for use starting from midnight today.

The Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, stated this on Wednesday while inaugurating the bridge for use for one month during the Yuletide.

Fashola, who took a walk around the bridge during the inspection, advised road users plying the bridge to drive safely and responsibly in order not to defeat the purpose of its construction.

The minister pointed out that the President, Muhammadu Buhari completed the bridge to save lives and alleviate poverty occasioned by the waste of man-hours resulting from gridlock on the old first Niger Bridge.

He however reminded that the opening was temporary

Speaking on the need for motorists to obey the speed limit rule, the minister added, that the maximum speed limit on Nigerian roads is 100 km per hour.

Babatunde Fashola Seeks Audit Of FG Assets

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has demanded audit of assets of the federal government which are on concession agreements.

He made this call at a public hearing organised by the House of Representatives committee on privatisation and commercialisation.

Over the years, the federal government has concessioned some public assets to drive optimal performance and boost revenue.

A concession involves an agreement between the public and private sector, in which a government-owned asset is maintained by a private investor for a specified period of time.

Speaking at the hearing with specific reference to highway concessions, Fashola said the arrangement has not yielded the desired results.
