Knee Injury Rules Tottenham Forward, Richarlison Out For Three To Four Weeks

Richarlison, Tottenham’s attacker, will be out for “three to four weeks” due to a knee injury, according to manager Ange Postecoglou.

The Brazilian, 26, sustained the injury in Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Wolves the previous time out.

Richarlison has 10 goals in 22 top-flight games this season.

“Richy is disappointed because he’s been a key contributor, but that has been how our season has gone,” Postecoglou said.

Richarlison has scored nine goals in his last ten appearances.

Tottenham have struggled with injuries in recent weeks, with Postecoglou still missing defender Pedro Porro, and Ryan Sessegnon due to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing hamstring surgery this week.

However, they could benefit from the return of full-back Destiny Udogie, who returned to training this week.

Tottenham, who are fifth in the Premier League and five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, will face Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola Has Been Named Premier League Manager of the Year

Pep Guardiola has been elected Premier League Manager of the Season for 2022/23.
Guardiola has won the accolade four times in his seven seasons at the Etihad Stadium.

The Spanish coach beat out Mikel Arteta of Arsenal, Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton, Unai Emery of Aston Villa, Eddie Howe of Newcastle United, and Marco Silva of Fulham to win the honor.

Guardiola led City to their third Premier League title in a row and fifth in six years, as well as berths in the FA Cup and Champions League finals.

Following a 12-game winning streak, City won the title with three matches to spare after trailing Arsenal for much of the season.

Guardiola also received the trophy after winning the league title in 2017/18, 2018/19, and 2020/21.

He is only the second manager in Premier League history, behind Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United, to have won more than three awards.

Burnley Boost Survival Hopes With Vital Point At Aston Villa

Burnley moved out of the Premier League relegation zone with a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa in a dramatic night down the bottom.

Ashley Barnes’ penalty late in the first half had put Burnley ahead but Emiliano Buendia equalised early in the second half and the mood became flatter for Mike Jackson’s team with the travelling support acutely aware of Everton’s extraordinary comeback.

Burnley could still have won it had Wout Weghorst not spurned a great chance late on but had to settle for a point – particularly when Matt Lowton was sent off late in the game.

Afterwards, Villa boss Steven Gerrard insisted Barnes should have been sent off prior to his goal for elbowing Tyrone Mings.

Burnley’s draw will be enough to guarantee they will retain their Premier League status as long as they can match Leeds’ result at Brentford when Newcastle come to Turf Moor on Sunday.

Aston Villa Sack Manager Dean Smith After Five Successive Defeats

Aston Villa have sacked manager Dean Smith after three years in charge.

Smith, 50, leaves Villla following a 1-0 defeat by Southampton on Friday, the club's fifth successive defeat in the Premier League.

Villa are 17th in the league, two points above the relegation zone.

Villa say the process to replace Smith has started but they will not rush into an immediate appointment - however, it is understood that Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand is a name of interest to the club and is admired by fellow countryman, Villa's sporting director Johan Lange.

Hjulmand guided Denmark to the Euro 2020 semi-final, when they lost to England at Wembley, and the 49-year-old has a growing reputation.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard and Belgium boss Roberto Martinez are also believed to be in contention, with Villa using the time afforded to them by the international break to home in on Smith's successor.
