GOVERNOR MASARI UNDER FIRE OVER COMMENT ON VAT

Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, has come under heavy criticism for dismissing moves by Lagos and Rivers states to start collecting the Value Added Tax directly.

Groups, including the Pan Niger Delta Forum, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and civil rights groups, in separate interviews berated Masari over his comment on VAT.

They stated this as the Ondo State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, stated that the move by the Federal Inland Revenue Service to amend the VAT law would not succeed.

The Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt had last month held that Rivers State had the constitutional right to collect VAT within its territory.

But the Court of Appeal in its ruling on the appeal filed by the FIRS on September 10 ordered a stay of execution of the judgment of the Federal High Court.

But in its reaction, PANDEF described comments by Masari as irresponsible.

Zamfara State Governor, Aminu Masari Says Bandits Recruits People with N5,000

Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, has identified as part of the problems, the facts that nation’s security forces were not properly armed and largely overstretched as a result of other security concerns across the nation.

The governor, who lamented the growing insecurity in his state, despite being President Muhammadu Buhari’s home-base, alleged that the situation has become so bad that bandits and kidnappers have infiltrated communities in Katsina and recruiting new members with as low as N5,000 along with drugs and other intoxicants to launch onslaught against innocent citizens in the state.

Speaking while receiving the police IG, Baba, at the Government House, who was on a courtesy visit, Masari said security personnel were grossly inadequate to tackle the nefarious activities of the bandits and other criminals terrorising the state.
He explained that security personnel, particularly, the police were not enough to police Katsina with an estimated population of about eight million people, while the police haveonly 3,000 personnel in the state.

Governor Masari claimed that the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) did not have modern equipment to combat criminality, especially, banditry across the frontline local government areas of the state

Aminu Masari Wants Governors In The North-East To Join Hands In Fighting Lingering Security Issues

Katsina State Governor, AMINU MASARI has said that the lingering security challenges facing the northwestern and northeastern states can be addressed if the governors of those regions join hands together to fight it.

The governor stated this at the Zamfara State House of Assembly during the two years anniversary of BELLO MATAWALLE's Administration.

Governor AMINU MASARI said no state can fight insecurity alone but with the strong collaboration of Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, Zamfara, and other affected states they can stem the culprits that are destroying the people, lands, and their culture.

He lamented that banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, killing, and maiming are not the identities of the citizens of the Northern region.

MASARI wants the citizens to see the fight against insecurity as everyone's responsibility.
