Peter Obi, the Labour Party's (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, says an auditor has been contracted to examine the party’s accounts.

On Monday, the party’s National Treasurer, Oluchi Opara, accused the National Chairman, Julius Abure, of misappropriating 3.5 billion naira belonging to the party.

She said the 3.5 billion naira was proceeds of the sale of forms and fundraising activities in the buildup to the 2023 elections, adding that she was compelled to raise the alarm because the “internal mechanisms” in the party failed to hold the party chairman to account.

Reacting to the allegations, the party said Opara was being influenced by “external forces” intent on destroying the LP and suspended her.

However, in a press conference, Peter Obi, accompanied by a member of his 2023 campaign team, Aisha Yesufu, said he is not involved in accounting for the party’s finances.

Aisha Yesufu equally denied any misappropriation of the party’s funds in the 2023 elections.
