Female Soldier Shoots Captain During Adamawa Curfew

In a shocking incident at a checkpoint in Yola, the state capital of Adamawa, a female soldier enforcing the curfew imposed by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has killed a Major.

The curfew was put in place after hoodlums looted government warehouses, including palliatives intended to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy.

The Lance Corporal identified as NKIRU allegedly engaged in a confrontation with civilians at the Fire Service Round About during the curfew. She insisted that motorists returning home must turn back, even when some of them revealed they were essential workers on duty.

When the Captain attempted to intervene, the female soldier, who had her rifle cocked, accidentally fired, resulting in the tragic death of the Major.

The victim was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Yola, where he was pronounced dead. The female soldier was apprehended by fellow soldiers and taken into custody.

Reports suggest that she had a history of allegedly harassing civilians and showing aggression with her weapon at the slightest provocation.

In a statement released, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, congratulated Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa on his re-election and thanked the people of Adamawa for re-electing Fintiri.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Fintiri won the election, which went into a re-run, after receiving a total of 430, 861 votes, defeating his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Aisha Binani, who scored 398,788 votes.

“By the way, it is not yet uhuru as we still have one more major mandate to reclaim, and together as one, we shall accomplish the task for the good of our country and its people,” Abubakar said.

Binani Breaks Silence On Involvement In ₦2 Billion Bribery Scandal

Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, also known as Binani, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, has denied any involvement in the bribery scandal that allegedly took place between the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Barrister Hudu Yunusa Ari, and the politician.

Binani emphasized that she is a committed democrat who would never try to undermine the democratic process.

In a statement, she said, "I wish to reiterate that I am a democrat, I have always been a committed democrat and will never do anything to subvert democratic process. I am not a do-or-die politician."

Binani also stated that the REC's alleged confession was made under duress, while he was being tortured at gunpoint by agents of the Adamawa State Governor and the Government House police team, along with their political thugs.

Yunusa announced Binani as the winner, even when the resumption of the collation of results scheduled for 11 am on Sunday, April 15, 2023, had yet to start. This was done by the REC and not the returning officer, as provided by the Electoral Act.

However, a viral video surfaced online, showing the REC, Yunusa confessing to receiving a ₦2 billion bribe to declare Binani as the winner of the election.

Binani, in a statement released on Tuesday, April 17, 2023, refuted the claims.

Ultimately, Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party was declared the winner of the Adamawa State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday, April 17, 2023, after polling 430,861 votes to defeat Binani.

The bribery scandal has caused a stir in the state, with many calling for an investigation into the matter. The situation is still unfolding, and it is unclear what will happen in the coming days.
