April 12, 2024 Junior Pope: Anambra Police Recover Three More Bodies

The Anambra State Police Command has announced the recovery of the three remaining bodies of victims involved in a boat accident that occurred along the River Niger coastline on Wednesday. In a press statement released on Friday by the state police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, commuters using water transport were urged to prioritize safety and avoid actions that could endanger themselves and others.

On April 10th, tragedy struck as a boat carrying a movie crew, including popular Nollywood actor Junior Pope, capsized during its return journey from a film location in Anambra West Local Government Area to Asaba, Delta State. The accident claimed the lives of Junior Pope and four others, prompting the Actors Guild of Nigeria to suspend actors from participating in film productions involving riverine areas and boat rides.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that the Marine Police of the Anambra State Command successfully recovered the bodies of the three remaining victims late Thursday. He stated, "Two of the bodies were retrieved on Thursday, April 11, 2024, while the third was recovered this morning due to tidal movements." The recovered bodies have been deposited in the hospital mortuary in Asaba, with notification given to the President of the Guild of Actors and Actresses.

The Commissioner of Police assured a thorough investigation into the tragic incident and praised the commitment of the Command's Marine Unit and its Commander in handling the situation.
