 SPANISH GOVERNMENT GIVES CATALONIA LEADER FIVE DAYS TO CLARIFY POSITION ON INDEPENDENCE REFERENDUM

Spain’s government has given Catalonia’s separatist leader, CARLES PUIGDEMONT five days to say whether or not he has declared independence.

If Mr PUIGDEMONT confirms he has, sources say he will be given a further three days to withdraw the declaration or risk further actions from Madrid.

Spanish Prime Minister, MARIANO RAJOY on Wednesday said his government had asked the regional government to clarify whether or not it had declared independence.

Spain has been in turmoil since the separatist government held a disputed referendum in Catalonia on October one.
