Heartland Football Club of Owerri have gained promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League after a 1-0 away victory at First Bank FC of Lagos.
The Naze Millionaires, who got relegated from the elite division last year, played in the Nigerian National League this year for the first time in the club’s 41-year history.
OKORO NDUKWE gave the RAMSON MADU led side a 36th minute lead in their NNL Southern Conference matchday 33 away fixture against First Bank FC.
The significance of the Heartland’s victory was evident when it was discovered that second placed Go-Round FC lost 2-1 away to Nnewi United.
Heartland FC have now joined Kwara United and Yobe Desert Stars as promoted teams for next NPFL season, with Crown FC, Bayelsa United, Delta Force, and Go-Round FC set to battle for the one remaining promotion slot from the NNL Southern Conference.
